What if the shadows left me alone for just one moment I could breathe And what if the shadows left me alone for just one moment I could breathe No I will not tell you no I will not go away I'll relax and fall Down into the depths of every hole I've ever fell in Down into the depths of every hole I've broke my face in And then there's the screaming They can’t stop the screaming It goes on and on and falls in two And they want you And they want you to Hold their little hand And "walk with me Walk with me" And tell me everything about yourself Everything about yourself Before I die Before I slip away Down into the depths of every hole I've ever fell in Down into the depths of every hole I've broke my face in You want to take me on yeah You want to take me on but you can't see through these eyes You want to take me down but Said you want to take me down yeah But you can't see through my eyes you can't see through my eyes I've been building this time I've been building this time bomb for some time and you might want to walk away yeah you might want to walk away there's no telling what these limbs might do

All this time feeling All these backwards feelings Drifting on —- but called back again All these eyes on you Locked in silence too Itʼs not a part of you Now the scapegoats calmly killing em Oh the verse is golden Dropping off and crippling Down with her - so itʼs back again All these eyes on you Droppin codes untrue Slipping through my arms It’s always coming back again Stay wide-eyed Stay right in front of me All the words are frozen Droppin off circlin Down your throat Hold them back again All these eyes on you Droppin coldest truths See it crippling them Oh the time for your scapegoatsʼ crumblin Stay wide-eyed Stay right in front of me

Defeated 03:51
You donʼt want it, itʼs all been depleted Locked in place the time has defeated it all Over and over and over and over You donʼt want it, itʼs all been depleted Locked in place the time has defeated it all Drifting and falling and seeing it all go Down in a hole Iʼve been hopin and dreamin I cannot believe that thereʼs nothing Keeping me whole Keeping me whole Get out of my way when I come out bleedin Nothings right and I feel Iʼm deceiving the world away All the lies at bay oh This defeated the purpose of dreaming And I cannot see all the ways that itʼs hurting Itʼs downward The fires burning Locked away and I feel all alone again Glad to die and I see through your wounds and your lies Please fall Down in a hole Iʼve been hopin and dreamin I cannot believe that thereʼs nothing Keeping me whole Keeping me whole Get out of my way when I come out bleedin Nothings right and I feel Iʼm deceiving the world away All the lies at bay oh Your deceiving The world is believing Way down in the open Youʼre dragging your crown on my Soil Fingernails digging youʼre way out Relieving your mountains of crutches And no one believes that you’re sane Finally you’re Down in a hole Iʼve been hopin and dreamin I cannot believe that thereʼs nothing Keeping me whole Keeping me whole Get out of my way when I come out bleedin Nothing’s right and I feel Iʼm deceiving the world away All the lies at bay oh

Tell me Why won't you suffocate? Why do you hold on so? Close your eyes and just let go Let go And after all of the trouble and all of the pain and all of the things you've done Why can't you just disappear and let it all fade away Let me find something for my own Let me find something to hold onto I watched clarity slip away I felt clarity slip away And after all of the trouble and all of the pain and all of the things you've done Why don't you disappear and let it all fade away Don't come back today Why don't you disappear Turn to dust my dear Let the winds carry your dirty face to the shore Where you drown Why is it you'd float upstream Come back for me Arm over arm determination Cause I've got to crack you've got to let me know I'll never make it I'll never make it After all of the trouble and all of the pain and all of the things you've done Why don't you fade away After all of the trouble and all of the pain and all of the things you've done Why don't you stop your breathing oh After all of the trouble and all of the pain and all of the things that you've done Why don't you stop breathing And let it fade away and let it fade

No closure, walk in her sights In time youʼll see it all yeah No closure, walk in her sights you Youʼll find a way out Heʼll find a way out Whether or not youʼre breathing Heʼll find a way out Pushed to the limits leaving No closure walk in her sights you Youʼll travel all around it No closure walk in her sights you Youʼll find a way out Heʼll find a way out Whether or not youʼre breathing Heʼll find a way out Pushed to the limits leaving And now your time is running out yeah No closure, walk in her sights In time youʼll see it all yeah No closure, walk in her sights you Youʼll find a way out Heʼll find a way out Whether or not youʼre breathing Heʼll find a way out Pushed to the limits And now your time is running out
6.
They will dress you up, just to take you out and break your face Split your sides with laughter, meanwhile your heads’ erased And when the bottle’s empty and you’re all alone you feel And when the bottle’s empty and you’re all alone you feel No it’s not so easy is it Beaten down and overcome with sorrow No it’s not the first time Close your eyes it’s blackened till tomorrow And so you spit names, choke on scenes, deeper in the shallow And now you’re blind to facts, defend their thoughtless acts and drown in the shallow And when the bottle’s empty and you’re all alone you feel And when the bottle’s empty and you’re all alone you feel No it’s not so easy is it? Beaten down and overcome with sorrow No it’s not the first time Close your eyes it’s blackened till tomorrow And when you turn your back, they’ll be there with knives up yeah And when you start to bleed, they’ll tell you how you’ve sinned And no words can express the way I’m feeling now Terrified, your heart stops - is this the end? And it’s not the way yeah There’s nowhere you can run, from the past and what’s been done and I fall Forgiveness just drowned in, just drowned, drowned in my head The fists fall and life drops It’s mapped out and you can’t stop Break it down, watch it crumble on Now there’s no sound when the music dies You will be You will be  You will be You will be gone

Youʼve depleted all the ways that Iʼve found Youʼre still needing all the songs of this lonely choir Youʼre still feeling going back all the way to the wire Youʼre seceding prophesies in the warm red fire Keep your eyes wide open Keep your eyes on me Youʼre deleting all the ways that Iʼve found Decimated only way to my one way out Youʼre seceding no the heathens canʼt stay around me Itʼs repeating always sleeping with one eye open Keep your eyes wide open Keep your eyes on me Keep your eyes wide open Keep your eyes on me Punching my way out Iʼm coming to get you Can you feel it? Can you feel it? Itʼs down to the wire and nothing will stop me Can you feel it? Can you feel it? Hold on to me tighter, weʼll never be silenced Can you feel it? Can you feel it? Weʼll silence the liars, this all will expire And soon be over Tried depleting all the ways that Iʼve found Youʼre still needing all the songs of this lonely choir Youʼve no feelings going back all the way to the wire Youʼre seceding push you back in the warm red fire

Sunday morning going backwards Feel all the hope has died Keeping the smile on feeling weighed down  Locked out overall Feeling alone in guarding our lives Keep it all outside no opening up  Locked down, feeling low Going round in my mind  Coming back to see it It’s the way out  The way out Sunday morning’s fake sunrises  Fighting back tears climb the compromise now The way out  Pen to paper sick of listening eyes All words unspoken  I see it in your eyes Open the door imagine them run Been locked away and they feel it all It’s supervised suffering  in sterile rooms they listen in I’ll open the door  You run and run  Feel alive  Then meet me home  And never-mind the wake behind me  I’ve been stomping and slashing and cutting through To the way out The way out Step right in front of me now  It’s the last thing you’ll ever do The way out  The way out  Your “justice” is broken  Burn down your system It’s time You can’t contain us Nothing will keep me away Calm down now my baby girl I’m here And wipe the tears from your beautiful, big brown eyes  No one’s gonna keep you away from me  The way out  The way out  Step right in front of me now  I’ll force feed you your last breath  The way out  The way out Stomping your teeth in  Stay right out of my way  Cause you kept us locked out  Tell me now How does it feel? No one will keep me from my children  So calm down now my baby boy we’re home And wipe the tears from your beautiful, big brown eyes  Cause no one’s gonna take you away from me

Set Fire 05:40
These exit wounds all now paint the truth All these scars in view now become the proof And now I am bleeding out you left me reeling now Same story different lies now I canʼt turn this around Left in silence Words rip so violent Now these thoughts are crumbling No I will not see your face again And if I claw my way out I will set fire And if I claw my way out I will set fire And when I claw my way out I will set fire And when I claw myself out I will set fire So set fire and burn this thing on down Set fire and burn this thing on down Set fire and burn this thing on down Set fire and burn this thing on down Set fire and burn this thing on down Set fire and burn this thing on down Set fire and burn this thing on down Set fire and burn this thing on down

about

As the dust settled on an impressive list of former endeavors, it was an unlikely series of human connections that sparked the inception of Assertion. After years of self-described music industry PTSD and disenchantment, drummer William Goldsmith (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Fire Theft, Foo Fighters), guitarist/vocalist Justin Tamminga, bassist Bryan Gorder united through a series of serendipitous events. Best described adjectively, the band's debut LP, "Intermission," is real, propulsive, and earnest -- a cathartic experience that proudly does not nestle nicely alongside current bands -- or really many releases at all from the last couple decades. "Intermission" conjures more connections to the heady grit and soaring grind of the 90's. Driving guitars anchored by a frenetic rhythm section. A haunting vocal delivery concealing a heartfelt sentiment. Track-by-track, the record builds into a dark and heavy crescendo but unpredictably retreats into delicate and fragile moments in masterful ways.
